Video Of The Day KUNITSA
Hailing from Gijón, Northern Spain, the Witch House/ Dark Wave artist KUNITSA follows last year’s eponymous debut EP with a music video, shot by Bárbara Arango, for the new single “Testigo Modesto / Modest Witness,” produced by Adrián Bremner.
Swathed in solemn, haunting ritual chants, heavily buzzing, jagged low ends, anchored by the dragged-down, syncopated pace of thudding, crisp rhythm patterns, tremble with saturated, doom-laden frequencies, to form a swirling, rustling uncanny mist, cast in an array of skewed and menacing synths that seeps around a creeping whispered aura of layered moody female vocals, conjuring pain, secrets, and fear.
In the paired visuals, filmed by Bárbara Arango, Kunitsa slowly walks down a forested path at dusk until nighttime falls. Her face is expressionless as the sky shifts back and forth from grey to black. Then, in tandem with the frightened shouts, an alternate strobing scene, where her clothes are different, shows a shadow and a ghostly, multiple-identity overlay fighting to overtake her body, syncing seamlessly with the conflict and dissociation brought forth from the soundtrack.
