WL//WH Track Of The Day Midsommar
Warsaw-based independent Shoegaze four-piece Midsommar, comprising Dawid Dziwosz, Karol Grabias, Bartek Zdunek, and new singer-songwriter Karolina Micula, herald the fragrant early Autumnal season with “Drifter,” the fourth and latest single that will carry us closer to Midsommar’s long-awaited debut album, “Unparalleled.”
Dubbed by the band as “probably our most melancholic (and possibly the longest) piece to date”, a difficult feat for a band whose music wholly vibrates with that feeling, “Drifter” talks about drifting, losing sight of a clear goal, getting lost on a big water, and finally about the joy of discovering the unknown.
The shimmering sparkle of “Drifter” beautifully reveals a knack for floating, airy, cinematic and transcendent songwriting,

A freewheeling waxing and waning as natural as the blowing breeze on a bright sunny seaside day, billows over a combination of loose, shuffling drum beats and slinky, rubbery bass pulses, to build the lively brace for emotive layers of clean, crystalline guitar melodies that seamlessly reverberate, linger, swell, and fade out with highly affected, shivering, stirring chords. Together, beautifully vibrant and emotional female vocals soulfully sway between despair and hope, ultimately soaring triumphantly, alongside high-pitched, fuzz-laden, swirling waves, to bring forth an enveloping feeling of drifting under a celestial sky, the “bottom of the ocean is different than a fall.”
