The Polish DIY multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Dawid Walkusz foretastes his second solo album, due sometime in Spring 2027, with an Official Video, directed by Maciej Cimaszkiewicz, for the new single “Syrena / Siren,” a song made in collaboration with Julia Frycz, the visual artist and vocalist of the band Emrere,

“Syrena” is described as a “hypnotizing blend of post-punk, dreampop, and an unsettling, hypnagogic atmosphere.”

Lyrically, the song takes the listener into the story of a sailor who, after a shipwreck, wanders through a mysterious island. Mesmerized by the enticing song of a siren, he inevitably marches toward his own doom, becoming another victim.

A prominent, organic, moody bassline ceaselessly throbs along steady drum patterns, to create a somber, hypnotic undertow for vibrant emotional layers of strained, shimmering guitar melodies and bittersweet, subtly whistling keyboards, to carry Dawid’s vulnerable angst away with the breathy caresses of Julia’s enticing siren harmonies, like an immersive, gentle billowing breeze over the deep mystery of the sea.

The song’s theme developed with remarkable intuition – from the very beginning, both artists shared an aligned vision of the atmosphere and story they wanted to create together. The entire creative process flowed in perfect synergy. When Julia planned a trip to Trójmiasto, they decided to bring their shared aesthetic onto the screen and shoot a music video.

In the Official Video, by Maciej Cimaszkiewicz (drummer for Feeria), filmed in Trójmiasto, a man finds himself stranded on an island with a beautiful mermaid singing nearby in the ocean. Just like a cinematic dream, Dawid wears an old-fashioned sailor outfit whilst Julia dresses in a bikini top with loose hair and a dainty pearl necklace. The color grading, executed by Dawid Walkusz, in close creative consultation with Julia Frycz, applies different saturations to bring forth both a bright, dreamy vibe and a heavy, granular darkness. Amidst the romantic crooning and confused stumbling around, a surprise horror movie ending takes hold, syncing seamlessly with the theme of the soundtrack.
