Usually embracing Dream-Pop / Shoegaze sonics, Moscow four-piece Dog Silent have dropped a one-off double single, “Diptych,” experimenting with immersive and expansive surreal trippy soundscapes of sheer intensity, “Thicket” and “Undine,” that will not be included in the band’s upcoming album, infused with 60s UK psychedelic songcraft, mesmeric effect-soaked guitars, and entrancing mystical bents.
In the lush, drifting “Undine,” lyrically, female water spirits ‘lure their prey, the maidens, before they finish it off, offer it pearls – this is their gift and their curse.’
Hazy, iridescent, reverberating guitar melodies circle and trip along with shuffling hushed drum beats and pulsing bass lines, seamlessly swaying with enveloping ghostly keyboards, joined by delicate sidereal strands of secretive tinkly keys, while serene, wistful female vocals entice, with a gentle, passionate push-pull cadence, into the mysteries of the sea.
“Thicket” talks about following a predatory siren’s call to run into the woods and dance naked with the shadows through a lens of being anxious and unable to see, dream, or sleep.
More bodily, resonant and erratic, the song winds its way through circling, sparkling arpeggiated guitar patterns, energetic strummed riffs, and buzzing fuzz-driven edges, building up, writhing and screeching into a spiraling shrieky final cathartic vortex, together with back-and-forth reflective and magnetic female vocals to arouse with high swirling siren howls and low, thrusting primal grunts.
