WL//WH Track Of The Day: NICO AMARA “Burn”

Track Of The Day  NICO AMARA

Swiss electronic musician NICO AMARA returns with “Burn”, the first single from the forthcoming second album, “Punishment Machinery.”

Drawing on Dante‘s Seventh Circle of Hell, “Burn” reinterprets violence through a contemporary lens, confronting environmental destruction and animal exploitation as well as the language used to justify them.

Fragmented and confrontational lyrics are delivered through a slightly distorted vocal within a rawer, drier and more minimal sound, built around a stubborn beat and layers of noise. The track feels mechanical and insistent, like a machine functioning just slightly wrong.

Lyrically, “Burns” points out how the people in charge commit horrific atrocities against people, animals, and the earth itself whilst tricking the masses into thinking it is the right thing to do by crafting deceptive words through a lens of the elite never having to pay for what they have done.

Nico Amara forges an austere, stark and bare-bones balance between atmosphere, tension, and restraint that feels emotionally resonant as well as bodily immersive.

Cranking up the track’s simmering, unrelenting, tightly wound intensity through steadfast thudding kicks, pinpoint clanging hits of razor-sharp precision, and the ominous droning throbs from chunky low-end sequencer stabs, building an immersive buzzing foreboding mist anchored by mechanical rhythmic hypnosis, while disturbing, tense vocals bite and slash with angry, vicious whispers.

NICO AMARA‘s second studio album, “Punishment Machinery,” is scheduled for release on 13 November 2026.
