Video Of The Day DORIAN’S STEAMING SHADOW
Dorian’s Steaming Shadow, the Białystok, Poland-based post-punkers made of Kamil Sołowianowicz (vocals, lyrics), Marcin Gliński (bass, backing vocals), Kuba Totczyk (guitar), and Filip Poliński (drums), returns with a home-made video, stop-motion animated with no AI by Gliński himself for “Phantom Fears”, the second single from the forthcoming second album, “Spring Anxiety,” scheduled for release on September 25th, via Poland’s oldest Independent label Antena Krzyku.
A song about losing one’s way in the darkness, “Phantom Fears” fuses compulsive, driving rhythms with raw, emotive energy and soaring, poignant melodies, to build a heady juxtaposition of moody introspection and anthemic, cathartic intensity.
A grinding, thunderous epic surge of loose, murmuring bass lines throb alongside hard-hitting, propelling drum beats that charge and stumble, beneath a hazy, distorted storm of resonant ringing guitars and searing sliding strings, carrying hopeless, shame-laden male vocals through the difficulty of angry frustration and painful longing, felt on the path back home.
In the paired DIY black-and-white visuals, Dorian’s Steaming Shadow performs as stop-motion animations made by band member Marcin Gliński, who hand-cut the “Dorians-on-a-stick” himself, without AI. Alternative scenes place the organic foursome in various states of darkness under a light source that shifts location and strength to explore the internal torture that turns out to be “Phantom Fears“ mentioned in the lyrics of the soundtrack.
