The raw atmosphere of a New York night comes into focus in the 17th edition of the Hybrid Identity mix series, crafted by VC-118A – the techno-leaning electro alias of prolific producer Samuel van Dijk, also known as Multicast Dynamics and Mohlao. Recorded during his live set for dream/self at Bossa Nova Civic Club, NYC in early June, the mix moves through electro realms with confidence. It is a stripped-down, punchy force: sensual, industrial, vivid, dirty, and full of bounce. Close to two decades in, Samuel van Dijk has built three musical aliases and three labels into one continuous body of work, drawing consistently on the deep, atmospheric end of the sound – known for cinematic live-sets, long, story-driven DJ mixes, and a collaborative work ethic.

“Sarbeans” delves into a seductively heady, trippy wormhole effortlessly churned by a groovy echo-laden wave of tight, crunchy staggered percussions, pulsing acidic gurgles, stuttering laughs, and chimey space-out pads, wrapped in exotic stringed resonances, to free and shake the mind and body in a never-ending reverie.

Doomy futuristic dark electro vibes from the enigmatic Greek producer ominously set over a jittery mechanical pace of heavy thumping, clanky industrial beats, thrumming flurries of distorted bass stabs, and deeply melancholic, glowing synth drifts.
