PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Bandung, Indonesia indie-pop five-piece band Clubwater “Cherry Lies” single [Tarsius Records]
Endearing Sarah-esque wistful jangle pop from Bandung unit that gracefully juggles between an insistent sway of buoyant glistening guitar melodies layered with poignant winding baritone tones, and hopeless shivering organ swathes to surround aching, downcast male vocals sadly crooning about two addicts, a troubled woman and the man who loves her.
- London-based alternative rock /shoegaze /indie rock trio Hazy Waters “Take me home” single
Leaving the synth in the background, London-based trio’s new hazy guitar-laden single ‘captures the raw feeling of modern overwhelm and turns it into a cathartic indie anthem’, deploying tight mid-tempo rhythms full of slightly distorted, ringing riffs, bursting into cool, shimmery fluttering mists around anxious, feathery female vocals of aching gloom, yearning for a new start where every day matters.
- Charlottesville, VA dream pop /post-punk /shoegaze /indie rock group Films on Song “1MPM” single from the upcoming sophomore album “Dissection”
A mercurial and atmospheric swirl of highly melodic ’90s-tinged indie guitar rock from the Virginia outfit, to finely set the tone for the upcoming second full-length. After seemingly running one mile per minute (1MPM), dreamy, anxious male vocals wander amid wavy and waggling bright riffs laced with soaring high-pitched melancholic leads, to grow tired and gloomy under energetic bursts of fuzzy cathartic distortion.
