Ex-Hyena, the brainchild of Boston, Massachusetts-based duo Reuben Bettsak and Bo Barringer, imaginative purveyors of slanted and multifaceted shadowy “dystopian dance”, drops an Official Music Video by Matt Bass, Nadine Dinter, and Reuben Bettsak himself, for the cinematic and emotionally charged, “Dark Lights,” the opening track from the band’s October 2025 fourth album, “XX YOUR LOVE,” via Re:Mission Entertainment.
The surreal and dizzying “Dark Lights” revolves around a ceaselessly pulsing and chattering sequenced bassline that propels the track, jointly with clapping and punchy mechanical drum patterns, straight into Morodesque electrifying realms, stabbed by twisted, warbling staccato synth chords, to meander with a flickering and clattering built-up urgency alongside haunted dual vocals of whispery fear and anxious quivers, struggling with unexpected momentums, stark tensions, and swirling immersive and cathartic freeing sensations.
The Official Music Video by Matt Bass, Nadine Dinter, and Reuben Bettsak syncs a red neon bedroom performance of Ex-Hyena with the sentiments of the soundtrack. Day to night imagery of mythical statues, symbolic structures, and shadowy explorations seamlessly brings forth the song’s core themes of collapsing into the night, letting love collide, and letting our “dark lights” shine.”
The “Dark Lights” Maxi-Single/EP, besides the original version of “Dark Lights”, includes also the Ex-Hyena’s 2AM remix, a Weyward remix, and a Pleasure Policy Remix of “Nocturnal Lullabye”.
