Darker Pepper, the DIY Lo-Fi Synth Pop Instrumental alter ego of the Portland, Maine-based Shoegaze / Dream Pop one-man band Darks0ft, has shared a Music Video for “Reflections Lie”, part of the simultaneously released 10-track album, “Tinted”, via Spirit Goth Records‘ ambient offshoot memorycard, “twenty-five minutes of brooding, cinematic lo-fi synthwave and retrowave with horror/fantasy textures”.
A timeless, thought-provoking, atmospheric instrumental journey that blends esoteric futuristic fantasies and the halcyon days of yore, winding through a dire, deeply sad wandering of shivering and fluty synth melodies layered with haunting echoes, buzzing bass pulses and the resonant loop of earnest, martial stabs, to build an immersive, uplifting epic energy, swept by melancholy, struggle, and unflinching hope.
In the paired symbolic visuals, Darker Pepper performs “Reflections Lie” in a black hooded Knight robe against a cloudy red/blue purple sky. In a golden field under light sprinkling rains, a synth station and a sword stand like crosses. The keyboard emits a red energy force on the hands as music rises with passion. After the blade is drawn from the ground and wielded in a skilled manner, it glows with a bright indigo-blue halo. All the while, the sky absorbs the energetic forces and creates an otherworldly backdrop where clouds shapeshift in sync with the soundtrack.
