Memory Index, the Coldwave / Post-Punk solo project of the Indianapolis-based multi-instrumentalist and composer Jackson VanHorn, rolls out the second single, “Traces,” from his forthcoming sophomore album “Artifice,” via the German independent label Cold Transmission Music.

The experienced songwriter continues to explore an elegant, lush, and atmospheric 80s-inspired post-punk/new wave aesthetic, filled with emotional resonance and distinctive melodic nous.

Whilst the first line (and the title) was inspired by an episode of Twin Peaks which happened to be playing in the background while I was working on the music, lyrically, the song is about finding your own direction through uncertainty, resisting the temptation to give up, and learning what to let go of in order to keep moving forward.Jackson explains

The immersive and introspective “Traces” compels relentless lashing drum patterns and subtly churning bass lines to fuel an opalescent haze of slightly distorted synth textures, rippled by billowing layers of effect-filled sparkling guitar melodies, achingly reverberating alongside breathy, anxious vocals, struggling to let go of something that is weighing the soul down.
