• ZEROHOUR SESSION 1: HzOGH – Whispers From The Astral Plane.
  

David Lynch described our world as being one of opposites, saying “the more darkness you can gather up, the more light you can see too.” Zerohour‘s resident Amsterdam dark dweller Smoghler, a.k.a. HzOGH, ventures out of his den for this journey into the light. This hour-long electro trip begins with reverb-drowned machine-dub before quickly picking up the pace to a steady electro rhythm. The 808 remains constant, but the mood stays lifted as spaced-out pads and ecstatic arp melodies drift in and out in an interplay with stone-cold computer funk basslines.

• Ambient /electronica /kosmische /electro-acoustic duo of English producer Tim Diagram (aka Maps and Diagrams) and Macedonian vocalist Genoveva, Bluhm “Thoughts in Willow” from the upcoming second album (after 13 years), “Signals in the Static” [handstitched*]

Returning after a very long hiatus, Bluhm, the duo of singer Genoveva and musician and producer Tim Diagram, even if the latter is more active than ever, check this week’s other collaborative project, Midorinozu. A ‘mysterious, reflective and otherworldly’ project always able to create a fascinating and moving universe with a vaguely surreal flavor. In “Thoughts in Willow”, Genoveva‘s out-of-sync vocals layer dreamy, soulful introspections with clear radiating, reflective skies and blurry, disintegrating echoes, to evoke a sense of disorientation that slowly fades and balances against a muted layered backdrop of subtly echoing and clicking acoustic patterns, warm soft bass strokes, and soothing enveloping strings, exploring shallowness, sadness, and everlasting awareness, ‘clear my thoughts with every breath.’

Bridging acid-dusted emotive electro and space-out IDM, the German producer, through a jittery, scratchy, pace-changing combination of relentless swaying beats and bouncy bass lines, brimming with obsessive bubbling squelches and poignant melancholic arp melodies, strikes a fine balance between soul-stirring atmospherics and futuristic dancefloor appeal.

Japanese producer bridges modern techno’s cerebral intensity and emotional depth. The early excerpt, “Frozen Walt”, unrolls a repetitive, hypnotic kick drum that ritually thuds with simmering, obsessive intensity, joined by crisp wooden percussive hits and sparse trippy, uncanny voice clips, accumulating textural shadows, drones and resonances, to slowly skim out and fade away.
