Almost two and a half years since the well-received 2024 second full-length LP, “Mirror Maze,” Absolutely Yours, the Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Dream Pop outfit, made of Bridget Collins (Vocals, Guitar), Andy Karel (Drums), Jacob Lauer (Bass Guitar, Electric Guitar), Dan Remes (Piano, Synth), and Mark Ritsema (Guitar), unveils a video by Joe Cristo, for “Margaret”, the first single from the forthcoming third studio album, “Desire Path” via the longstanding Illinois DIY Indie Pop label, Sunday Records.
Originally the brainchild of singer-songwriter and guitarist Bridget Collins, Absolutely Yours churns out a captivating mélange of introspective Jangly Indie Pop, fuzzy Shoegaze textures, and mesmerizing Dream Pop sonics pulled from bands such as Cocteau Twins, The Sundays, Beach House, and Alvvays, while being seamlessly deft at infusing a distinctive, intimate, and expressive quality.
“Margaret” explores what it feels like to be misunderstood and the fear of misunderstanding others through a tearful lens of doubt, regret, and ultimately acceptance of wrongs.
The song ushers into a pleasantly suave, blurred and dreamy dimension, where layers of tinkling sad piano keys, impalpable keyboards, and nostalgic chiming riffs glide, ripple and echo smoothly on the surface, anchored by a soft undercurrent of light shuffling drums and springy humming bass pulses, wandering effortlessly in an immersive intoxicating and stirring way, together with vibrant, remorseful female vocals, and wispy ethereal skies, bathed by cathartic waves of heartfelt comfort and understanding.
In the paired visuals by Joe Cristo, filmed in Minneapolis, Bridget Collins performs “Margaret” alone in an intimate outdoor setting whilst wearing all-black, modest feminine clothing. The scenes shift between a playful tree climb at sunset under the sun’s long shadow casting rays and a brooding, misty grey walk in the garden with delicate purple petals at twilight. In between, she plays guitar with a yellow flower tucked behind her left ear. She is always in motion, but for a solitary park bench where the vision ends as she picks a nearby red bloom.
