WL//WH Track Of The Day: ICEBLYNK “Rememory”

Track Of The Day  Iceblink

Precisely three years after their last single “Enter the Sky”, New York‘s dreampop band Iceblynk returns with the 4-track EP, “BOAB,” that includes two new songs and a couple of remixes.

Namely, the past year’s live mainstay “Rememory,”  the trip-hop-laced “Never Ready,” a reimagined track from the archives, plus two reworks by The Summer Republic, a Brooklyn collective featuring members of Clone and the Veldt and Enter the Sky, and by Pablo Martin, producer and composer for Lulu Lewis, The Du-Rites and touring member of Tom Tom Club & Belouis.

The Queens based quartet, made up of Andrea Lynn (vocals), Martin Newman (guitars, keyboards), James Newman (bass, lap steel) and Rachel Fischer (drums), concocts an atmospheric, kaleidoscopic guitar-driven sound that dances between the lights and shadows of Cocteau Twins’ swirling ethereality, the Cure’s dense moodiness and Lush and the Sundays’ sparkling melancholy, peppered by Andrea‘s singular, high-pitched, transfixing vocal delivery.

“Rememory” sparks off a sonorous, vibrant rhythm section and liquid, effect-laden chiming guitars that seamlessly interplay in an emotionally charged and crashing crescendo of tumbling propulsion and ghostly, piercing reverberations, hopelessly stretching out, amidst forlorn crushed piano keys, over wistful, anxious female vocals, soaring into high, quivering cries, turning drained from emotional burnout.

Iceblynk‘s new “BOAB” EP is out now, CD & digital, via the band’s Bandcamp.
