Track Of The Day ABANDONED BUILDINGS
Seamessly blending Shoegaze, Psychedelia, and Indie Rock leanings, Abandoned Buildings is a five-piece guitar rock band, made of Andy Ramsden (drums & backing vocals), Ben Cleverley (guitars), John Maskrey (bass), Jonny Lee Hart (guitars & backing vocals), and Paul McNulty (guitars, synths & vocals), who like to make noise in a dilapidated old mill in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
The band released last weekend the new single “A Darkness Looms”, taken from Abandoned Buildings’ forthcoming EP, “Fragments”, a slice of Ethereal Dreampop recorded live in session at Prospect Studios in Bradford, soon after last year’s second album “Eroding Light”.
When it’s too soon to turn away from the past, “A Darkness Looms” over extremely sad, agonizing vocals, desperately aching to be taken to another place while vibrant glittery sheets of effect-filled guitars slowly but sharply pierce, bleed, and echo atop long drawn out bass pulses and tinny stumbling drum beats awashed by ghostly keyboards, evoking a deep sense of melancholy and helplessness.
Gig wise the group are curating their own event in Leeds at Hyde Park Book Club on Saturday 5th July, called “Live inside a dream”, which celebrates Shoegaze, Psychedelia, Dreampop and the work of David Lynch, that will feature, besides Abandoned Buildings themselves, the up-and-coming Night Swimming, Lozenge, Forming, New Ghost, and Lines of Silence.
The inaugural Leeds avant-gathering will have volunteers from the David Lynch Foundation there on the day, raising funds for his charity, and live visuals. In addition, some of the bands may be incorporating a song or track from Lynch’s work into their sets, too. Advance tickets link here.
