WL//WH Premiere ANGELS IN SHADE
The enigmatic Gothenburg–based Dark Wave / Synth-Pop DIY solo project Angels In Shade rolls out a music video by Emilia Palmén for the new single “Out of Time”, WL//WH is pleased to premiere.
The song marks a departure from the Swedish artist’s dark, scathing lo-fi beginnings as heard on the self-titled CD compilation, previously released in July of this year by Record Turnover, instead turning out a more refined sound and songwriting style, mixing elements of upbeat synth-pop and melancholic darkwave.
Minimal, retro-modern, dark moods merge in a frenetic, hypnotic drive of rapid burbling, oscillating bass loops and tight, crisp snares, over which an emotional flutter of nostalgic, bittersweet crushed synth melodies unravel into a melodious plangent call-and-response alongside sad, worried, spectral male vocals, conjuring a brooding sense of angst, melancholy, and longing.
In the paired visuals by Emilia Palmén for “Out of Time”, vintage action-packed movie clips shuffle with the violence and beauty of Mother Nature and man-made creations to evoke the nostalgic rush of the soundtrack. A blood-red filter covers the vision in dire perception, whilst themes of mirror reflections, growth and entropy, and smoking cigarettes repeat, in a variety of forms, under a symbolic, sped-up back-and-forth flow of motion.
