Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – FEBRUARY #06-23

PICKS OF THE WEEK:
  • Belfast, UK based indie rock /dream pop /shoegaze singer-songwriter Jamie Welles “Sarah’s Song” single

Hailing from a land of fantastic vocalists like Van Morrison, “Sarah’s Song” is the new single for Belfast singer-songwriter Jamie Welles, gifted with a striking Elton John-like resonant voice overflowing with sentimental love, channeling moody, shivering surges of doubt and passion over steady thudding rhythms and shimmering waves of dazzling, fuzzed-out guitar distortion, to ring and shiver laced with angsty doubts of love and obsession.

  • Toronto, Ontario indie /slacker rock /shoegaze /slowcore project of Charlie Berger (Slowly, Tonemirror, With Hidden Noise, Slow Planet), DORMER “Better Late” from upcoming LP “Concerning Me” via Loss Leader Records

Our old acquaintance from Toronto with his slackened, cold and intimate, subtly poetic, Slowcore moniker Dormer, teasing the forthcoming LP with the dreamy, introspective, Low-tinged “Better Late” that winds pain-fueled echoing guitar strains through expanding, loosening tunnels of trembling bass lines and light scattered, plodding drum beats, to insistently sway along high airy vocal angst, with the insight to take the long road home.

  • Auckland, NZ new indie rock trio fronted by singer-songwriter Kane Strang, Office Dog “Big Air” from “Big Hair / Warmer” second single

Since an Indie Rock young talent from the mythical Dunedin now about 7/8 years ago and along his three solo albums released so far, singer and songwriter Kane Strang has always shown entrancing imaginative songwriting, at times sprinkled with psychedelic nuances, and a consistent distinctive melodic flair. The brand new single, less reflective than usual, the second, from his new band Office Dog, ignites breathy and restless vibes full of emotion and drive from the outset, through perky trotting drum beats, trembling bass lines and angsty fuzz-riddled, subtly screech, guitar riffs to coalesce in swells of bittersweet memories around distressed vocal airs, desperately sinking into a daydream of “big air”.
