PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Italian post-punk /shoegaze trio  IN HER EYE “Something Wrong” lead single from the fourth studio album, “Death in a Morning Show”

Staples of the Italo-gaze scene since 2007, the Milan-based three-piece returns from hibernation with a sparkling new single to herald their highly anticipated 4th album. The song sprawls out with a mesmerizing, mind-bending guitar work worthy of a memorable Karl Precoda. Driving drum beats stumble along a brooding, humming bass floor over which a steady frenzy of vibrant guitar distortion squeals and squalls with seething, jarring intensity through swirling high-pitched howling leads around steadfast reverb-drenched male vocals, projecting strength and awareness through a droning vortex of doubt and distraction, to elicit feelings of support and confidence.

  • Paris-based five-piece Dream Pop /Post-Rock /Art-Rock / Shoegaze collective Pam Risourié “Reborn” single from their upcoming second studio album, “I’ll never be human”

An enveloping, intimate acoustic second single from the eclectic French collective, about being tired and full of doubt through a lens of another’s pain and tumult. “Reborn” weaves nimbly, nestled over crisp, woody percussions, across the insistent staccato shimmer of an energetic strumming and fleeting keyboard glint, to swell in a restrained rhythmical fluid progression around layers of deeply sad, breathy baritones, alternating with light, elated dreaminess, stuck in conflicting moods between despair and hope

  • London-based indie rock /shoegaze /grunge /dream pop solo project Violet UltraRay “Stellar Dreams” single

An infectious mélange of early-mid 90s alt-rock/grunge melodicism with buzzing shoegaze haze, rife with noisy crunching blasts of distortion and swirling, excruciating high leads, shoots airy, upbeat vocals, trilling and soaring with urgent desire, above the sad and chaotic world, into the stellar realm, brimming with light-headed ecstasy.
