WL//WH Video Of The Day: VAGUE PHONIQUE “Prionen” (Official Video)

Video Of The Day Vague Phonique

Formed at the end of 2023 by Valerio Kuhl (synths, vocals, lyrics), Mathias Völkel (guitars), both former members of XTR Human and vocalist Katharina Holz, the Stuttgart-based Dark Wave / Post Punk trio Vague Phonique have dropped the Official Video by Roland Schymik for their second single “Prionen”, the follow-up to last-March’s debut “The Last Man”, via Danse Macabre Record.

The German language song “Prionen” weaves a devastating description of a brain prion disease with a surrounding of endless menace to instill feelings of fear, danger, and death into the mind of the observer.

A gloomy dramatic atmosphere overflowing with melancholy and despair ignites eerie, immersive ceremonial humming glows to rise above quick hard-hitting drum beats, low, mumbling bass lines, and sparkling echoing weaves of somber guitar melodies around layers of sad emotional vocals and dead echoes, releasing pain into shivering breezes of haunting melodies.

In memoriam of Peter Kuhl, the Official Video by Roland Schymik, shot at Kunstverein Wagenhalle, Stuttgart, places a slideshow of vintage photos containing ghostly apparitions, soldiers, and other lost souls behind an intimate performance by Vague Phonique. If you look closely, you will see that all the figures have blacked-out or scraped off faces, burned silhouettes, or disfiguring shadows, syncing symbolically with the macabre lyrical sentiment of the soundtrack.

Keep up with Vague Phonique:
