Adelaide-based psych-drone-shoegaze outfit Desert Eyes foretastes the release of their debut album, due later this year, with a DIY video for the second single “Crushed In The Moment.”

Formed in 2024, the South Australian trio, made up of Kaliah Alice (Vocals), Paul Thomas (Guitar), and Bennett Sandhu (Bass), draws influences from bands such as The Black Ryder, Spacemen 3, Ride, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Ghostwoman.

Driven by urgency and angst, “Crushed in the Moment” explores the lies we tell ourselves and the complicated dynamics that exist in every kind of relationship. Chaotic and infectious, the track showcases Desert Eyes at their most immediate and uncompromising.

An eerie, murky yet groovy mind-expanding surge, “Crushed In The Moment” spirals out into a sprawling hypnotic dimension of driving drum beats, subdued, shivering fuzz and edgy, sizzling energy joined with jagged, wailing squalls of reverb-laden guitars, to ring and swell around expansive layers of intense pain-filled female vocals, struggling to survive under regretful swarms of self-betrayal-induced distortion.

The Official Video displays an out-of-control, lightless drive down a winding road in the middle of nowhere just before dawn. The horizon is dark, but for the barely perceptible white glow above the earth. A trippy, hard to decipher, translucent overlay where the bandmates rehearse at a venue with a bar at times looks like a troubled woman screaming and banging on a door, syncing seamlessly with the emotional turmoil of the soundtrack.
