WL//WH New Music TH DA FREAK
Renowned, especially at home, but not only, as you can notice from the band’s upcoming tour dates, TH Da Freak, the Garage /Indie Rock brainchild of eclectic Bordeaux-based guitarist, songwriter and Flippin’ Freaks Records co-founder Thoineau Palis, announces, after fourteen LPs released in eight years, a new chapter of TH Da Freak’s prolific and brilliant effort, with the live lineup joining their leader in the entirety of the music creation process.
The French collective unveils a DIY video for “I’m Still”, the first excerpt from the forthcoming studio album “Negative Freaks”, due on March 21, 2025, via French Indie labels Howlin’ Banana Records, Flippin’ Freaks Records and Les Disques du Paradis.
“Recorded in four days, “Negative Freaks” blends dissonant, proto-grunge influences from early Mudhoney, TAD, and Nirvana with pop structures and surreal lyrics. It emerges as a cohesive, bold debut for the band.”
An electrifying blend of boisterous sludgy grunge and edgy mechanical post-punk, given by in your face spoken word vocals declaring, “I’m still the motherfucker I used to be”, as a cacophonous barrage of heavy riffs, instigated by thunderous, rampaging drums, and off-balanced squealing intermissions of jagged guitar strains, off-kilter keys, and squealing frenzied melodies, feverishly lift into a soaring climax with a full-throated scream.
“The single comes with a DIY video in which TH da Freak wanted to recreate an atmosphere reminiscent of Los Santos in GTA—an arid, chaotic, and absurd world, somewhat like the one in Ari Aster’s film Bo is Afraid.”
Colorful and outlandish DIY visuals showcase TH da Freak performing “I’m Still” against a dirt field graffiti-strewn backdrop. The band wears metal pots on their heads that change vision into a blue light virtual realm where a massive junk food binge leads to a manic explosion. The quintet’s hyperactive energy, vibrant aesthetic, and self-deprecating humor all sync seamlessly with the essence of the soundtrack.
TH da Freak‘s forthcoming album, “Negative Freaks”, will be released on March 21, 2025, via Howlin’ Banana Records, Flippin’ Freaks Records and Les Disques du Paradise, simultaneously with the band’s European/UK Tour. Limited coloured Vinyls & CD formats are already on Pre-Order.
Keep up with TH da Freak:
