WL//WH Video Of The Day: GLOOMHEAD “Adored”

WL//WH Video Of The Day  Gloomhead

San Francisco, California-based Alternative Rock / Doom-Gaze unit Gloomhead, made of James (Guitar), Marta (Vocals), Harrison (Bass), Chris (Drums), and Sam (Guitar), drops a video by Michael Donaldson for “Adored”, a follow-up to the first 2024 single “Possessor” of the band’s new path.

Moving away from Gloomhead‘s early crushing and fractured instrumental post-hardcore inceptions, while still heavy yet increasingly atmospheric and immersive, the track, which deals with an “adored” person who selfishly takes advantage of, and scars, a lovelorn soul, delves into tumultuous, quiet-loud, effect-laden, fuzzy dark realms of agonizing emotional strain.

“Adored” is like gazing out the rain-splattered window of a car in motion, lost in the quiet sorrow of a passing storm.

Incessant, loose, at times thunderous, drum beats and heavy bass throbs fuel a distorted, churning, stormy mass of fuzzed-out riffs, interspersed with urgent jagged bursts, aching introspective interludes and cascading drones, to crash down over, ethereally layered, beautifully tragic vocals, soaring into piercing pain-filled cries, amid turbulent sways of push and pull emotions.

Thought-provoking black-and-white visuals by Michael Donaldson show old-fashioned entertainers performing extreme, repetitive actions to sync with the toxic relationship aspect of the soundtrack. Overlays distort the imagery with symbolic textures to bring forth feelings of danger and out-of-control behaviour at the hands of bewitchment and a trauma-based need for attention.
