WL//WH Video Of The Day: MIDSOMMAR “ALICE” (Official Music Video)

WL//WH Video Of The Day  Midsommar

After a five-year releasing hiatus, Midsommar, the Warsaw, Poland-based Shoegaze outfit made of Dawid Dziwosz, Karol Grabias, and Bartek Zdunek, returns, introducing the newcomer singer and songwriter Karolina Micula, to unveil an Official Music Video by Micula herself for “ALICE”, the first single from the forthcoming debut album, “Unparalleled.”

The sparse, almost whispered vocals contrast with a dense, spacious wall of guitars, creating a hypnotic, cinematic atmosphere. The track balances between intimate silence and a slow, shoegaze-style explosion of sound—evoking the raw, dense sound of My Bloody Valentine and the ethereal, melancholic aura of Slowdive.

ALICE” is a musical snapshot of the world immediately after the loss of a loved one—a moment when everything around is still marked by their fading presence.

The song, an emotional journey into the depths of grief,

instigates thumping drum beats and gloomy humming bass lines to relentlessly fuel shimmering whirlwinds of reverb-heavy guitar melodies that shiver with echoing pain in their achingly expressive widespread trail, together with airy, piercing, melancholic female vocals mourning the loss of a loved one, wrapped in sizzling misty drizzles of jagged, ringing distortion.

The visuals by Karolina Micula herself combine hazy and fluid grey overlays with the organic textures of Mother Nature and the art of reflection, to bring forth the deep sorrow, contemplation, and longing expressed in the soundtrack. Micula wanders and spins, as if she is a tiny figure in the tall grass near a forest, before inverting the perception by placing a mirror on the ground so that it appears as if the partly cloudy blue sky is underfoot, syncing seamlessly with the namesake ALICE.”
