WL//WH Video Of The Day: MELANCULIA “Sunboat Ascension” (Official Video)

WL//WH Video Of The Day  MELANCULIA

Melanculia is the new DIY solo project by Essen, Germany-based, Portuguese-native multi-instrumentalist Nino Sable (Aeon Sable), who returns to his late 1990s roots with a raw Alternative Rock sound with gothic undertones, fragile and unfiltered.

Melanculia explores the space between shadow and light, between intimacy and distance, creating deeply personal stories about the beauty of melancholy.

From within the industrial Ruhr area, melanculia channels emotional intensity through minimal arrangements: acoustic guitar, haunting synths, and deeply cutting lyrics.

Nino released a symbolic video filmed by Ruth Herberhold for “Sunboat Ascension”, a song he wrote in remembrance of his dear friend Lex Spielmann, who passed away in June 2025, while the forthcoming full-length album, “Post Mortem”, from which the track is taken, was being created.

Shrouded in a heavy feel of loss, the heartrending acoustic elegy, “Sunboat Ascension,” ponders the different states of the soul from the fall to ascension.

It provokes an immersive and evocative aura that lays clattering vibrant percussions with relentless earnest crisp guitar strums that linger along with reedy, poignant keyboard melodies resonating with raw, mournful, haunted color above layers of impassioned, suffering male vocals, laden with airy flows of deliverance, surrender, and forgiveness.

In the companion video, filmed by Ruth Herberhold at Der schöne Hermann in Essen, Germany, Melanculia/Nino Sable delivers a stirring performance of “Sunboat Ascension”, while reading a tarot deck in sync with the soundtrack. A teal cloth with a sun mirror sets the introspective backdrop for a simple desk where a skull, a bone, five peacock feathers, and a book of interpretation give deeper insight into the nature of life’s journey.

Melanculia‘s forthcoming album, “Post Mortem,” is scheduled for release,  ltd. CD and Digital, on May 15, 2026.
