WL//WH Track Of The Day: SARAKINIKO & JC (Vox Low) – “Paroi de Fer”

Track Of The Day SARAKINIKO & JC (Vox Low)

Sarakiniko, the lush mud-pop music project formed in 2021 by Breton musician Yann Canévet, has recently teamed up with JC, the frontman of Parisian dance post-punkers Vox Low (Born Bad Records), dubbed as an acid-house version of The Jesus and Mary Chain”, for a couple of singles that take the cue from late ’80s/early ’90s freewheeling, genre-melting visionary cosmic slo-mo electronic excursions with a psychedelic edge by the sorely missed, iconic English DJ, remixer and producer Andrew Weatherall.

The latest ‘Screamadelica‘-tinged single, “Paroi de Fer”, via Sarakiniko‘s DIY label La Maison des Corbeaux, lays out esoteric lyrics about a personal journey cast in omens, silence, insight, and wisdom through the lens of a noble presence.

The track chugs and clanks in an eternal loop, amid a seamless tension and release, rolling out through the mesmerizing downtempo groove of shuttering dubbed-out percussion, thumping kicks, and a round loping bassline, layered with sad drifting synth motifs, tinny cowbells, feral chants, and obsessive chirping frequencies, to set the fiery backdrop of a primal struggle imbued by an array of male vocals that shift from gentle spoken words, to softly sung, wistful, secretive and elated, with scratchy distortions, brooding about being past the hardest part of a challenge while heading toward a vibrant horizon.

Keep up with Sarakiniko & JC:
