Like it took a long time to be released, besides the archival 2020 collection “No Memories Before This,” spanning the 2012-2015 period, in the same way, we had to wait until yesterday for a new song, titled “Never, never”, and it was fully worthy.
The Swedish quartet holds a natural knack for seamlessly combining dreamy, dulcet, immersive incantations of delicate melancholy and catchy, fuzz-laden angsty bursts, swathed in haunting and cinematic atmospherics.
“Never, never” deals with nervously wondering what an intimate moment with a loved one would be like from the perspective of never finding out.
A swelling breezy build-up of high, silvery vocal harmonies exhales yearning anxious hums, backed by an insistent entrancing sway of shimmery arpeggiated guitars, and a laid-back shuffling drum groove that keeps all afloat, swept by a tinkly soaring of warm bodily poignant 6-string tones and airy blankets of wistful keyboard washes that fill the ether, before gloomily relaxing.
An exquisite comeback from the first to the last note.
