WL//WH Track Of The Day LAVA DIVERS
Hailing from the Triângulo Mineiro in southeastern Brazil, the four-piece guitar rockers Lava Divers, formed in 2014 and inspired by the noisy UK/US bands of the late 80s/early 90s, released their locally lauded debut full-length, “Plush,“ at the end of 2016 on Midsummer Madness, before taking a long break.
Lava Divers returned last May with both the new single, “Time,” and line-up, comprising founding members Joe Porto (guitar and voice) and Glauco Ribeiro (bass), joined by Amanda Bredariol (drums) and Ian Alves (guitar), followed by the second excerpt “, Nine of Swords”, featuring vocalist Jair Naves, from the forthcoming sophomore album, once again via Midsummer Madness.

Refining their guitar-laden mix of noise pop, shoegaze, and college rock, full of emotional and sonic depth, with an understated sense of atmosphere and abrasion, the band finely molds nuances of noise balanced with immersive, introspective melodic sensibility and clear-cut yet dense hazy textures.
Alchemically, the “Nine of Swords” tarot card represents facing the darkness of the unconscious to transform mental anguish into higher awareness.
A resonant melancholy-carrying bass line endlessly pulses, alongside light shuffling drums, through a distortion’s warm emotive blanketing, laced with grainy and grazing swelling fuzz, to wash over softly sung saturated dual vocal harmonies, blending gentle baritones and high female angst with whispery male spoken words, expressing the painful frustration of watching a loved one suffer due to needing, or wanting, more than their inner being has to give.
