WL//WH Track Of The Day: STAR TRIP “Velocidad / Speed”

Track Of The Day  STAR TRIP

Almost four years since the brilliant second album “Salto al vacio”, Star Trip, the Spanish Power-Pop band from Valencia, is back on track with a string of new songs to introduce the upcoming third LP, “Velocidad / Speed”, scheduled for September and edited as usual by fellow independent label Pretty Olivia Records.

Taking their name from a 1994 Velvet Crush tune, the quartet, formed by Rafa Navarro (guitar/vocals), Alvaro Gomez (bass/vocals), David Osete (drums) and Vicente Prats (guitar /vocals), draw heavily from the bright chiming guitar pop bents of Big Star, Teenage Fanclub, The Posies, and Matthew Sweet, just to name a few, through a fine balance of electric and acoustic tones, amid sun-dazzled reflective harmonies, laced with a lingering melancholic afterglow, and intense emotional outbursts.

The third single and title track “Speed”, features Andrew Taylor of Edinburgh‘s buddies Dropkick on a 12-string guitar, pulses through a bright guitar attack hinting at the most brilliant ‘timeless melody’ from Lee Mavers’ outsider genius, soon enriched by twangy flourishes, swaying on the crystalline and ringing entangle of airy jingle-jangle guitar arpeggios, on which glide angsty nostalgic vocals, achingly longing with emotional backup echoes.

Well, with the incoming new works from Slumberland Records’ Chime School, Young Scum, always on Pretty Olivia Records, and our Star Trip, it promises to be a good time for jangle pop aficionados.

Keep up with Star Trip:
