My idle, cold and quite windy morning couldn’t have been a better rush of andrenaline listening to the new track from Portland‘s anarcho post-punkers OVER.
The 4-piece, made of Lilian Void, Ruby Monet, Andrew Grosse and Justin Cory, play a thrilling, fresh and melodic blend of 80’s dark post-punk and deathrock with shoegaze undertones firmly rooted in DIY anarcho-punk ethics, all of this sounds great to my ears, but all too often, the results are not the best, fortunately this time is not the case.
After their last year brilliant 6-track debut cassette “Vacant Daydream”, the new single “Amateur Predator” is introduced by scratchy, bleak guitar riffs soon intertwined with a dragging bass lines on which stands the magnetic and fiery Ruby Monet‘s soaring vocals, corroborated by a rousing and piercing, reverb-drenched guitars and punchy rhythm section, to achieve a genuine and uncompromising, epic and menacing, utterly melodic dark sound enhanced by sour lyrics that hit at all the ‘manunkind’ from the grim times we are going through.
In a ‘democratic’ country with a prison population of up to 2 million, mostly Black and Hispanic, more than any other country, with 25% of the world’s prison population, for the exclusive benefit of the private prison industry, all proceeds of the single go to Red Lodge Transition Services.
