Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – OCTOBER #43 – 22

Ryan McGinley

PICKS OF THE WEEK:
  • Manchester, UK jangle /indie rock solo project of Dan Whiteley, AKA The Quiet Method “A Life in Pictures” single

The Mancunian singer-songwriter delivers a dynamic and moody 90s American-style Indie Rock, tinged with Power-Pop and Jangle flair, nodding to Nada Surf, Matthew Sweet, Replacements, REM, Posies, and Lemonheads, that vibrates and simmers through somber sparkling melodies alternating with emotive electric bursts. The new single “A Life in Pictures” unfolds helpless nostalgia and melancholy to layer an intensely sentimental outflow of sad angsty strains, intense guitar strums, wistful twinkling jangly melodies, and aching vocal pain over a tumultuous rhythmic punchy undertow, cast in broody bass vibrations and lost emotional swirling piercing cries, to deliver a heartfelt confession of lost whimsical dreams.

  • Sidney based indie pop /slowcore /shoegaze /dream pop 5-piece band Ultracrush “Bruise” single

Sidney based unit plays a shimmering dreamy jangly indie pop sound with airy melting harmonies and an irresistible smoothly rippling pace, through ceaselessly stirring layers of haze and rays of light, “Bruise” weaves a glistening array of wandering wistful guitar melodies and humming gossamer keyboard shrouds, through a heart-pulsing bed of warm sinuous bass line vibrations and dragging drum beats, to carry lost aching vocals down an introspective winding road of regret and shame to capture the lyrical tragedy about abuse with melancholy and dread.

  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania dream pop /shoegaze one-man band DRAMAMINE “Rise & Shine” single off of upcoming EP (plus instrumental bonus tracks) “Wind & Sand”

Immersive ambient-laden shoegaze dipped and lilted in a cool and soothing wistful contemplation, layered by emotional drifting crystalline guitar ripples with light tinny stumbling beats, gauzy washes, and dazzling keys, twinkling around echoed lost heartfelt vocal harmonies, breathlessly longing in a helpless reverie of eternal love.
