WL//WH Weekly Post-Punk // Darkwave // Dark Synth Tips – MAY 2026 – #19-26

It’s the 9th consecutive season for Mike D (longtime editor of the WL//WH team) on-air, with Wave After Wave radio program this year relocated to the internet station DarkwaveRadio.NetEvery Tuesday, Live at 22.00 (EET) / 21.00 (CET)
PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Vienna minimal synth /mutant dancefloor synthpop duo Mitra Mitra "Electron I" title track of the fourth studio album "Glassy Tears" [Feral Child / Micromort]
After three years deep in the static, the Viennese duo returns to dance with their mutant synth sound that fuses minimal 80s aesthetics, hypnotic dance-inflected programmed beats, and lush glowing analog synth carpets, to cast neon-lit shaped narratives of modern dystopia encapsulated by aloof icy vocal charisma, swathed in ghostly menace, and gloomy sensitivity. Mitra Mitra has been able to hold the same familiar magnetism and restraint that made the artistic partnership remarkable in the first place, while naturally developing into something snappier, crispier and more emotionally straightforward.
- French goth /shoegaze /post-punk/coldwave solo project from Orléans, GLASSZONE “A Strange Feeling” from "Lights" EP
New 4-tracker of equally atmospheric and monochromatic classic 80s post-punk / Coldwave tropes, amidst a dark folk ending, delivered with enough intensely gloomy, autumnal and melancholic melodic tone in which stands out the guitar-stabbed introspective title track, alongside the Curesque third song about the "Strange Feeling" of wasting time, that bounces through a meandering moody throbbing bass, insistent thorny guitar lines, and soft shivering swirls to frame wistful, ominous male vocals lamenting disconnection, concern, and frustration.
- Stockholm, Sweden 2-piece industrial /electro /synth-pop /electronic music group Hatif "Assembly Line" 2nd single from the upcoming third album [Town And Towers Records]
The Swedish duo deftly balance emotional heft and sobriety within an atmospheric modern electro-pop framework of moody, introspective intensity. The song carries the treadmill circling depressive nature of working servitude by meandering hypnotically through mid-tempo skipping beats, along with pulsing gloomy bass lines and slinky flickering synths with a subtly squelching, slurring tone, laced and swirling Middle Eastern flair, while stressed out, tired male vocals, layered with baritone echoes, surrounded by a lurking hypnotic danger, evoke a sense of melancholy and loneliness.
