Formed in 2023, Chronotape is a Batumi, Georgia-based atmospheric darkwave / post punk Russian duo, made up of Eve (lyrics, vox) and Dee (music), unveils an Official Video for “The Loop”, the new single taken from the forthcoming debut album, “Now It’s Dark,” due out in June 2026.
The song builds up on a martial dungeon synth-like backdrop with a voice clip from Martin Scorsese‘s “Shutter Island”, ‘like a tape playing over and over on an endless loop’, before a trembling prickly drizzle of emotional glistening guitar melodies, alongside buzzing bass throbs and crisp rapid beats, skitterily dart and chug beneath misty layers of melancholic synths, to disconnect clear, haunted female vocals of angst and fear from faraway ghostly swathes.
In the visuals, Chronotape perform “The Loop” next to a treed area in an abandoned building. The ambience shifts from day to night, creating an intriguing interplay of symbolic lights and shadows. Different types and angles of perception, through editing and camerawork, seamlessly convey the lyrical content about the futility of running from the truth of the past and facing the darkness.
