WL//WH Video Of The Day: PROPTER HOC “Imagineers In The Exclusion Zone” (Official Video)

Video Of The Day  PROPTER HOC

Propter Hoc, the Cold Wave / New Wave artist from Glasgow, Scotland, returns to WL//WH with an Official Video for “Imagineers in the Exclusion Zone”, an electrifying dance-inducing track inspired by the Russian brothers Arkadij and Boris Strugackij‘s 1971 philosophical Sci-Fi novel “Roadside Picnic”, also the first single taken from an early 2025 album release, via Cold Transmission Music.

The lyrics are partly inspired by the Tarkovsky film ‘Stalker‘, and the book it is based on, ‘Roadside Picnic‘ by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. In the story, there are ‘Zones’ which are dangerous to enter but contain valuable items of an unknown but advanced alien technology, and there is a black market for these items which results in them being used to nefarious ends, without their true purpose or power being understood.

Soundwise, charged with Acid House thrills and shapeshifting retro rhythmic elements, uncanny synthetic fascinations drive sneaky percolating bass currents and relentless thumping drum patterns under smooth baritone vocal broods, while swaying intermissions of icy alarming synth strains, eerie frequencies and obsessive quick knocking percussions rouse paranoia and intrigue into a swirling and compulsive dancing hypnosis.

Innovation in technology today is similarly directed by short term financial interest rather than any sense of social good, and increasingly controlled by monopolistic companies, which use closed systems to mystify and exaggerate what they do. 𝘓ed by entrepreneurs who present themselves as imaginative geniuses but who, in reality, are using other people’s ideas for their own personal gain, without understanding them or caring about any harmful impact or consequences.

The Official Video showcases Propter Hoc, dressed to the nines in striking Gothic fashion, as he takes a walk through the warped headspace of the “Imagineers in the Exclusion Zone.” At first, the sun shines through the treetops of a mysterious forest. But the situation quickly turns dim, then dire, when neon geometric wormholes open into a future destroyed by nuclear bombs.
