PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Seljord, Norwegian chamber pop /folk /indiepop group established in 2016, Selma “Hvis jeg går lenger, går du lei” from “Hvis jeg går lenger, går du lei/Horten-Moss” 2-track single

Another pleasant return for the Norwegian ensemble with 2 songs, recorded in 2024 as a quintet, yet actually a septet, that blends tender electro-acoustic folk sensibilities and sunshiny bittersweet indie-pop melodicism with nostalgic lyricism and stirring expressive vocalizations.  In the romantic “If I go further, you get tired”,  angsty, synchronized male/female vocals sway and vibrate over scintillating, fluttering streams of playful, swirling and colorful instrumentations, including a violin and a drum machine, sentimentally longing amidst moving home to Østfold/Vestfold.

  • Warsaw, Poland dream pop /shoegaze four-piece duszno “bluszcz” single

Ethereal female voice, as is the pattern of several current Polish shoegaze bands, see Midsommar, albeit with thicker, grainy and dissonant guitar textures from duzsno with a new single about friendship, love, and hidden pain. Vibrant wistful vocals drift on a turbulent introspective sea of rippling buzzy distortion laced with piercing pained high twinges, to urgently plead with a loved one, ‘believe me, I don’t want to leave.’

  • Bali-based Indonesian dream-pop /shoegaze outfit Dive Collate “Silent Seeds” from the upcoming EP, “Silent Seeds”

Back after a long hiatus, the Balinese dreamy shoegazers bring to the table their distinctive lush, mesmerizing sounds alongside gentle, breezy, engaging vocals, that billow as fluid vibrant streams of emotive glistening vibrations, with liquid layers of reverberating shimmery guitar textures and feathery keyboard fills, ending up as a beautifully radiant enveloping harmony, which brings immense blissful depth, amid a brief reflective lull, to roll away into a dazzling, swirly cathartic ascension of letting go for tomorrow’s ‘Silent Seeds’ to bloom.
