WL//WH Track Of The Day ULTRASATURATED
After around a year, the dreamgazer trio Ultrasaturated, hailing from the heights of the Italian Alps, returns with a 3-track EP permeated with their distinctive highly atmospheric, washed-out, shimmering sound, which blends reverberating jangly guitar fretwork, enveloping new wavey synth washes, and a vibrant propulsive post-punk energy with a soft, whispery, emotive vocal delivery, conjuring equal parts melancholy, nostalgia and bliss with compelling aural results.
While the Aussie singer-songwriter Serf, on guest vocals in “Puma”, provides a palpable swirling presence paired with slightly angular 6-string parts, the opening “New Love” revolves around familiar lush, zippy and expansive bright yet dusky arrangements.
Albeit it’s “Moor” that captivates us the most with its moody and subtly gritty driving postpunk bottom parts and its oneiric, shiny electronic pad coda, a song which deals with running away from someone because their shadow is too heavy, from a perspective of eternal love and new horizons.
An insistent swirl of glistening guitar tones echoes and floats, one over the other, joining with a sonorous, nervy meandering bass line, and racy drum patterns that keep the momentum high, alongside smooth, saturated vocals of gloom and elation, vibrantly rushing into high, billowing celestial skies.
