WL//WH Video Of The Day: HANGING FREUD “Grooming”

WL//WH Video Of The Day    HANGING FREUD

Glasgow’s haunting Experimental Cold Electronics duo, comprises São Paulo-bred Paula Borges and London‘s Jonathan Skinner, operating under the alias of  Hanging Freud, are back with a subliminal DIY video for the first track, ‘Grooming’, from the band’s seventh studio album, “Worship”, available today, December 1, 2023 via the band’s new affiliation with Spleen+ (the recently launched Post-punk sublabel of Alfa Matrix) and their very own imprint Tiny Box.

Because of what was going on, we were essentially stuck in temporary accommodation in Scotland, away from our studio and forced into a period unexperienced before. The songs that came out therefore come from a different place. Everything was done within a laptop and is proudly 100% digital. It was recorded and mixed while literally sitting on the side of a bed in a mouse infested apartment…

Surreal, contemplative auras of wistful radiant keyboard melodies rise ceremoniously, spreading and swelling through stirring hypnotic dry snares, punctuaded by round echoing toms, and light buzzing bass pulses, to enshroud detached pain filled vocals with an alienating glow of the awkward and intense discomfort felt by the victim of a ‘Grooming’ incident.

Thought-provoking DIY visuals place poignant lyrical selections with symbolic filters to sync strategically with the ‘Grooming’ exploration of the soundtrack. Multi-layered dimensions of white cloudy microscopic particles, shadows of synaptic neural connections, graceful underwater creatures, and a negative light identity give pause for the unimaginable depth involved in a traumatic human experience.

Hanging Freud‘s seventh LP, “Worship”, is out now, as a limited colored vinyl edition as well as a lush double-CD digipak, with the “Anomalies” bonus EP, via Spleen+  and the band’s own label Tiny Box.
