WL//WH Video of the Day: FOREVER GREY “Candy Knife” (Official Music Video)

Video Of The Day FOREVER GREY

The Post Punk/Darkwave duo, Forever Grey, originated in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 2014, before relocating to Los Angeles, California. The creative music project of Anna Schmidt and Kevin Czarnik, also known as Milliken Chamber, observes a strict DIY approach using vintage, analog drum machines and synthesizers.

Their latest single, “Candy Knife,” a foretaste of the forthcoming self-released 10-track studio album, ” SILENCE LIKE ETERNITY,” due out on November 13, comes with a well-crafted, thought-provoking Official Music Video made by the pair themselves.

A spectral excursion bathed in woe, with small, twinkling flakes of light, lets a gloomy, earnest bassline set an endless, resonant, brooding throb, alongside steady, punchy drum patterns, rippled by the sulk and meander of eerie, edgy, melancholic guitar slivers. These latter dimly sparkle and linger, layered with ephemeral, lonesome synth swathes, to mirror and absorb the wistful, agonizing connection of male baritones and female haunted ethereality, echoing ghostly pain and fearful longing through waves of loss, grief, and failure.

In the DIY visuals, Anna Schmidt and Kevin Czarnik roam the beach, haunt a graveyard, run through the woods, and dwell in the darkness. Edit-wise, transformative filters change the depth and texture of natural, inverted, monochromatic, and glowing jewel-tone color schemes. Jarrett Taylor (Special Makeup Effects Artist & Mask Sculptor) brings a creepy horror movie edge to the couple who, at times, appear with blood on their mouths, as either zombies or vampires, depending on the adjustments described above.

Forever Grey‘s incoming self-released 10-track studio album, ” SILENCE LIKE ETERNITY,” will be dropped on November 13.
