WL//WH Premiere: OH MADONNA’s “Obsession Nouvelle” Between Infatuation and Destruction (Official Video) [Cold Transmission Music]

WL//WH Premiere  OH MADONNA

Oh Madonna, the Synth-driven Gothic/New Romantic duo from Mannheim, Germany, made up of Nana del Gray and GEISTHA, spirals into the darker corners of a sapphic obsession in the DIY Official Video for their latest single, “Obsession Nouvelle”, via Cold Transmission Music, WL//WH is pleased to premiere.

Shadowy Darkwave pulses meet the glittering edge of ’80s Synth Pop, wrapping emotional excess in a sound made for the dance floor. Beautifully doomed, dangerously catchy and just a little unhinged. For the creatures of the night, the ones who find beauty in the wreckage and keep dancing anyway.

A soundtrack for the darker side of the year, “Obsession Nouvelle” describes the inner thoughts of a romantic obsession, carving out a thrilling concoction of 80s Synth-pop allure, immersive shady ambiences, and euphoric Italo scents.

Heady, sparkling synth melodies, layered with subdued, melancholic strings drifting overhead, swirl and flicker in and out of the relentless propulsion of thumping beats and bouncy, elastic bass grooves, stirring up rousing, lifting spirals of obscure dance desire, to engulf sensual layers of breathy, lust-filled female spoken-word vocals, with cold, airy mists of anticipation and euphoria.

Inspired by dark stories in Cherie Currie’s memoir Neon Angel, OH MADONNA turn her story into a sapphic horror movie about the fine line between infatuation and destruction.

The Official Video directed by Nana del Gray & Geistha themselves, starring Rebecca Okechukwu, begins on the top of a parking garage at night, where, from a first-person perspective, a stylish Gothic girl smokes a cigarette. After walking down a graffiti- tagged stairwell, the new obsession firmly says goodbye before disappearing alone into the city darkness. As the unwelcome pursuer secretly follows, the vision becomes blurry, blackened, and disoriented. A horror movie-style chase scene leads to an aggressive confrontation when the victim fights back, leaving the other down on the concrete.
