Matrukk is the moniker of Cagliari, Italy-born DJ and producer Matteo Girometti, “a curious explorer of the underground sounds”, from New Wave, Electronica, Dark Disco and all around, from which he shaped his sonic vision and leanings.
With a couple of EPs and a single under his belt, always featuring guest singers, “In the shadow of neon light”, the first release of the year, via his own label Cat Cave Records, marks his debut as the lead vocalist.
A modern electrifying fusion of dance-minded pulsing rhythmic drive and chilly moody dark wave aesthetic, the track compels a steady drum programming alongside broody warbling bass lines that thump and bounce ceaselessly along, swept by swirling layers of swooshing fxs, painful slivering reverberations and forlorn synth drifts, on top of which earnest, fearful baritone vocals emit distorted whispery echoes whilst standing still, in refuge from the shadow of neon light.
