WL//WH Track Of The Day: GOODLIFE 1996 “This Town Is Sucking The Life Out of Me”

Track Of The Day  GOODLIFE 1996

GOODLIFE 1996 is the new depressive Shoegaze project from Brisbane, Australia, led by Steven Schnorrer of the long-running Goth/Post-punk outfit Locust Revival, as a means to give free rein to the reverb-drenched flirtations constantly present in his primary project.

Deepened by the use of drop-tuned guitars and sombre vocals, the band’s debut single, “This Town Is Sucking The Life Out of Me,”  which will be followed by a full EP in the new year, conveys how living in a small town can feel like being dead, because there is nothing around that stimulates or rouses care.

The song tackles both blissful, sad and broody atmospherics of quiet/loud shoegaze dynamics, laced with a murky grungy underbelly, stumbling through tinny trembling guitar strums, interspersed with noisy fuzzed-out outbursts and pain-fueled screeching swells, over lost, ghostly vocals suffering in heavy sways of agony.
