WL//WH Track Of The Day Ancient Channels
Meanjin/Brisbane based Dreamy Post Punk unit Ancient Channels, comprising of Talia Bond (drums), Cameron Martin (bass), Lloyd Martin (guitars), Bec Martin (vox, guitars), and Kelly Hanlon (vox, guitars, synths), roll out their third single, “Hex Beat,” from the forthcoming sophomore album “Static Spirit”, due later in the year via False Peaks Records.
“Hex Beat” churns out driving, mercurial post-punk energy, bathed in a sweeping sea of swishing shoegaze that engulfs the listener in a liminal dimension between dream and reality.
The song propels an unrelenting skittering, at times crashing and rolling, rhythmic groove that urges an invigorating sprawling cascade of fuzz-drenched guitar textures, coursed with fluid synths and achingly obsessive, wailing surges, to echo over the swaying hazy surface alongside equally ecstatic and fearful vocals, building floaty misty layers swathed in high backing harmonies and falling cries.
