Started in 2020, Breath Play is the North Texas-based Synth-Driven Dark Wave moniker of Alex Yanez, who drops a DIY video for “Serpent”, his second single since last September’s 8-track debut album “Lust & Desire.”
Steady punchy drum patterns relentlessly march and pound, along with subdued droning low ends, underneath a hypnotic buzzing swirl of wailing synth loops in an obsessive search for a place of rapture, encapsulated by sad, vulnerable male vocals, veering to an old, archetypal shadow to offer purpose and the “Serpent.”
The paired visuals transform Breath Play with lights and symbols as he performs “Serpent” against an array of suggestive backdrops. Mixed within the vision, evocative imagery of slithering snakes, snowy castles, and a black-and-white forest changes depth, color, and clarity to strategically bring forth the headspace of the soundtrack.
