Based in Jupiter, Florida, Darkwater and Stars is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist and composer Melissa Griffin who tinkers with multifaceted dark, atmospheric and melodic sound mining elements from the ’80s and early ’90s.
Inspired by ‘Drab Majesty, Twin Tribes, and The Cure’, the new single “Dance in Darkness” could not but draw exquisitely liquid glistening 6-string arpeggios, reflective melodies of seductive melancholy and compelling sullen vocalizations, all crafted with heartfelt harmony and elegance.
Dark Romantic lyrics describe a sacred dance of black magic amid slight slivers of hope and escape.
A skipping drum machine drives vibrant twinkling chorus-filled guitar melodies haunting and blazing the darkness, alongside lonesome flashes of synths, to draw somber visions of ethereal melancholy into a seamlessly winding ghostly juxtaposition of lights and shadows, whilst sad detached restless vocals and ghostly echoes, drown in angst and dread, pierced by hypnotic weeping spindly leads of pain-fueled obsession.
