PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- “Remain Without An Answer: The Silent Love / Race” a split single between Indonesian DIY bedroom indie-jangle pop bands The Silent Love (“Do I Need Your Answer”) and Race (“It Will Remain”) soon on CDr via Chaotic Pop Records
New endearing split single, starting, as always, from the cover artwork, featuring two facets, old hero and newcomer, of the buzzing Indonesian indie pop scene that delves into ’80s UK jangling glimmers through a stripped-down usage of a sizzling electric guitar and a hypnotic drum box. Experienced Ganesha, aka The Silent Love, after telling someone “I Love You”, draws out warm and rich bittersweet romance flickering on glistening reflective 6-string chords around a bright vocal delivery angstily hoping for honesty. More bouncy rhythms and sharper guitar strings for the younger Addil, aka Race, that stumbles on Stephen Morris-like driving drumming coursed by both sparkling and slightly lysergic high-pitched exotic guitar melodies, around shy heartfelt vocals, haloed at times in high radiance, longing for understanding amid romantic turbulence. One more time an absolutely winsome dose of crystalline guitar pop from the Tangerang label.
- Oklahoma City bedroom /indie /dream pop musician and composer Ford Chastain “Automatic Response” single
Intimate and soulful new single, about fighting the impulse to follow a loved one’s wants, from the dream-pop singer-songwriter, laced with distinctive sophisti-pop flair, sculpts a gentle ripple of soft rhythms, swaying tinny strums, and echoing, plinking guitar melodies to breathe and weep against wistful, will-less vocals, dreamily longing for the strength to let go.
- San Francisco 4-piece psych gaze band Pink Breath of Heaven “Look Inside” 4th and final single from the debut album [Little Cloud Records]
San Francisco psych-gazer’s final single unfurls a motorik-driven heady spiralling carpet of shimmering, droning and sneakingly reverberating guitars on which glide and magnetize atmospheric female vocals, rising into soft piercing cries before slowly releasing long drawn-out breaths of hypnotic semi-euphoria, to guide the listener into a state of awareness where healing and self-discovery can take hold.
