Weekly Electronic Music Tips // MARCH 2025 #11-26
PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- DJ HELL – DJ Mat Klaash x SameHeads IX (03/2026)
If it is hard to forget his mid-90s classic trippy mix “X-Mix-5 (Wildstyle)“, I had the lucky chance to attend several DJ Hell‘s nights at the console in early 00s Berlin, although mostly warm-ups or after-shows of live gigs, besides a Gigolo label Party and a too-packed sort of legal rave in his Bavarian region. The iconic underground electronic innovator for over four decades is kicking more than ever with his incendiary high-energy mix of Techno, Electroclash, Wave, Electro, House and all around.
- Birmingham, UK-based experimental /ambient /percussive /dub /techno main electronic music project since the early 90s of producer Robert (Bobby) Bird, aka Higher Intelligence Agency “Juju Love” (1993) from “Juju Love” EP, first vinyl release for early HIA’s three tracks, remastered & cut for vinyl by Stefan Bekte (Pole) [Headphone]
Triggered by “Screamedelica” and the connected Andy Weatherall remixes, and followed soon after by The Orb, The KLF, Biosphere, Orbital and FSOL debuts, HIA‘s 1993 album “Colourform” was one of the first electronic records I bought alongside B12 “Bytes”, Autechre “Incunabula” and the first Warp‘s “Artificial Intelligence” sampler series, to name a few. Those subliminal atmospheric, chill-out, experimental sounds crossed the line between ambient, dub, house and techno, to skirt or possibly be part of the so-called IDM or Braindance, opening new unexplored sonic territories that are still ever evolving in my elated listening wanderings. Enhanced by the Stefan Bekte remaster, the 3-tracker is a pristine reminiscence of the prowess with which Robert Bird elaborated his vision, reiterating his prominent part in the evolution of modern electronica.
- Amsterdam-based Dutch trance /deep hypnotic techno producer Human Space Machine “Gallop” from “Perception Field” EP [Midgar Records]
Dutch producer concocts a fluid and brisk Techno groove, centered in atmosphere, depth, rhythm and restraint through a seamless sensorial stimulation for the mind and body, equally crisp and tactile, as it is intimate and abstract, in which to let yourself become mesmerized wholeheartedly.
- Barcelona-based ambient /acid /psych /tribal /downtempo /techno /trippy electronic duo David Iriarte and Carles Rocamora, aka Iro Aka “Direction 0 (Original Mix)” from “Dimensions” EP [Polychrome Audio]
Catalan mind-bending electronic pair unroll a couple of intoxicating, twisted and trippy percussive Techno stompers, smothered in echoing bleepy, tinkly and bloopy acidic sequences, to stack a loose, bouncy, and playful dance exhilaration.
