PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Dream pop /indie rock /indie folk band from Washington, D.C., COLOR PALETTE “Anywhere at All” new single
Spanning the 90s-inspired boundaries of Indie Rock, Dream-Pop, and Shoegaze, the D.C. band, led by songwriter/vocalist Jay Nemeyer, deliver straightforward yet emotionally intricate sentimental and melancholic guitar-driven sound, loaded with loud fuzzy riffs, and enveloping wistful layers of fluting keyboard melodies around dreamy, hopeless vocals, breaking into ecstatic wails while searching for someone, anyone, to spend time with.
- New Haven, Connecticut alternative rock /shoegaze /grunge band SCRT AGNT “Good Enough” single
“Good Enough” is an electrifying grunge-engulfed song about trust, faith, and not letting others drag you down, replete with lacerating suffering and agonizing frenzy that builds through a moody quiet/loud climax of loud, crunchy fuzz-laden, at times choppy and shivering, riffs, tinny energetic strums, and a final high-pitched, soaring excruciating sniveling lead, to echo commanding, frustrated, slightly gravelly, male vocals, warning another that time is running out. Utterly familiar ’90s Alternative Rock from the Connecticut outfit, but certainly not lacking grit and passion.
- Bedford, UK indie rock solo project of Jon Behrendt, aka Last Days of Rome “Sunday Driving” 4th single from the (currently untitled) third album
Sincere and moving ’emo’ guitar rock from the solo DIY English singer-songwriter drives insistent, plaintive and slightly distorted spindly guitar riffs to wander around intimate, heartfelt vocals that rise into melancholic croons vibrating with achingly twinkling, bittersweet melodies, to explore moving forward and taking part in life, rather than dwelling in the past and letting it pass you by.
