PICKS OF THE WEEK:

• Argentinian post-punk/new wave grrl duo from Buenos Aires, Las Kellies – ”Closer” from forthcoming new album ‘Suck This Tangerine’ via Fire Records                                                                                 

We usually do not highlight already well-established bands, but the new single from the longstanding Argentinians sneakily won its way into my dance-inducing inner earworm weekend. The duo embrace dance post-punk style with the usual extreme naturalness and urgency, through hypnotic and bouncing propulsive funk bassline, pounding drums, sharply twisted guitar cuts and infectious chorus, sounds heard a thousand times but the grrls make them absolutely irresistible.

• Vancouver, BC deathrock/post-punk/dark punk 4-piece DEAD CELLS “Idols Of Charlatans” from the upcoming debut album “I” via Erste Theke Tontraeger and Neon Taste Records
  

After a highly promising demo EP, finally the first previews from the long-awaited debut LP for a band that ably shows how to mix melody and energy, equal parts raw beauty and razor-sharp intensity, with waves of hooks along with dark and edgy menacingly broodiness coursing through raw bursts of dark punk noise.

Talented Italian post-punkers’ new single unleashes dire dark repetitive beats together with hypnotic bassline that build tension and urgency around sinisterly alluring vocals in this devilishly danceable magnetic electro-wave number, a perfect way to set the tone for the band’s long-awaited debut album.
