Teetering between abysmal arcane introspection and layering strident obsession, Julinko, the Italian art music project of Treviso-bred, dark folk singer-songwriter Giulia Parin Zecchin, drops a short film created by multimedia artist and Nero Kane collaborator Samantha Stella, for the evocative eerie ethereal track “Oh Maiden” taken from the 6-track EP recorded at a home session during Lockdown entitled, “No Destroyer”, co-released by Dio Drone (Tape), Ghost City Collective (CD) and Dischi Devastanti Sulla Faccia (Tape).
The song “is a dirge coming from the past, the lament of a young girl who died just before her wedding: she could not know love, but only taste its scent.”
Excruciatingly beautiful and pain-filled vocalizations layer the agony and ecstasy of feminine energies with airy hums, and fragile whispers to fall helplessly bound into the stinging reverb of echoing guitar string’s urgent passions.
Devotional lyrics swept in symbols of transformation and purity pray for guidance during a ceremony of growth.
Hypnotic dream-like sequences, as a tribute to uncanny oneiric cult movies such as Peter Weir‘s “Picnic at Hanging Rock” (1975) and Sofia Coppola’s “The Virgin Suicides” (1999), capture a disconnected stream of consciousness, where innocence, secrets, and deception conjure alternate realities. Black and white photography spins an invisible, frenetic force of time-lapsed motion around a group of innocents, hiding in the sorrow of lost journal entries to escape Fate’s wicked hands.
