Samt Martin, the Berlin-based Kraut /Indie Rock four piece made of Lars Goldstein (Electric Guitar), Thomas Haider (Vocals, Guitars, Percussion), Max Krüger (Bass) and Simone Secci (Drums, Percussion), returns with an Official Video by Max Krüger and Thomas Haider themselves, for “Sommer in der Stadt”, the first in a series of three singles intended to bring their raw, more direct live sound further into focus, via Grantler Records.
Fusing Schrammelig Post-punk energy and danceable NDW leanings, with nods to the spasmodic off-kilter funk of Palais Schaumburg,
the song ignites stumbling, at times crashing, drum beats and slinky elastic bass grooves, to provide the shaky, vibrant and propulsive foundation for the noisy disheveled chaos of craggy, scratchy guitar riffs and blasting, whimpering saxophone blows, colourfully bursting around loud, restless vocals, rising into an insane scream amidst raucous backing cries.
In the paired visuals, by Max Krüger and Thomas Haider themselves, Samt Martin perform “Sommer in der Stadt” in a concrete parking lot under the sun’s baking rays. A skewed fisheye lens frames each bandmate as they act out a slapstick comedy skit about common summer activities that absurdly go awry. Then, idyllic television beach imagery starts streaming, almost mockingly, in the backdrop while the real experience inverts to hang upside down.
