WL//WH Video of the Day: HAPAX “Elegy”

Video Of The Day Hapax

Italian post-punk finest Hapax based out of Naples, made of Mozzillo Michele ( voce, bass, synth, lyrics), Diego Cardone ( guitar, bass, synth, programming, artwork), Alessandra Policella (Lyrics and ispirations) e Fabio Malfi (drums), have just dropped a new video for the song “Elegy”, taken from their third studio album “Monade”, released last June through Swiss Dark Nights label.

Sober sparklingly abrasive guitar melodies bleed with urgent pulsing basslines amid steady metallic drum beats, as deep devastated male vocals mix with menacing sinister synth chords to form emotionally dire atmospherics crying in lost desperation.

Poetic lyrics describe overwhelming disbelief at the all-encompassing darkness felt in the absence of love’s rare beauty.

The poignant video, directed and edited by Elio Nubes De Filippo and featuring Natalia Kalinowska, dramatically depicts a beautiful woman walking into a dim neon bar as a man agonizingly laments against a bleeding red inferno backdrop symbolizing the toxicity of alcohol and the destructive role it can play. Millions of people go missing and heighten the tragic mood, while flashing strobe lights pierce the darkness, creating a sense of chaos around the disturbing moment of pause, filled with mindless dancing before the final scene, where our anti-heroine presses a CGI reset button, as tears drip down her shamed face.

Hapax are currently in-between a mini “Spanish Monade Tour 2020” with Moonst, check it out!

Keep up with Hapax:
